Labor Day Weekend Recap

Hi friends!! It’s been such a busy few days. Did you have a wonderful Labor Day holiday? Sure hope so.

Last I left off was last Friday with the fantastic peaches and strawberry oats. I was procrastinating from an 8 mile run but since I had the day off from work, there could be no excuses. Have you ever regretted a workout or a run? Nope, me neither. Oh, except for the time at Sgt. Mike’s Bootcamp when I sprained my ankle for the first (and only! knock on wood) time and received 13 swollen mosquito bites. Yeah…

I’m happy to report that oatmeal with fruit ended up being great pre-run fuel. I’m typically a bagel with PB and chia girl, as I’ve mentioned before, but I’m going to look forward to testing out some new breakfast choices soon. Might as well, prior to the big race day!!

Here are some pictures I snapped along the way. Somehow I felt super energized during the entire 8 miles! Can I attribute this to the oatmeal energy?? My pace was around 8:20 min/mile overall, so I was pretty happy with this. On top of the energizing run, it was super sunny out. Love.

Umm… notice how beat up my Garmin 305 is? Definitely took some beatings when I fell during the RNR San Diego full. Race recaps Part 1 and Part 2.

I’m so blessed to be able to run in such beautiful Seattle!

That night, for dinner, we just had to have Pam’s Kitchen. If you live in Seattle and haven’t been to this little U District restaurant, you must try it soon. I first discovered them through the Food Network’s Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives. They specialize in Caribbean-Trinidadian food and my absolutely favorites dishes are Pelau, veggie roti (curry), and the fluffiest doughiest delicious carb known as paratha. Holy yum!

The next day, Saturday, was the start of the UW Husky football season. This is a big deal in our household. I’m an Oregon Duck through and through, but since living in Seattle and being with a diehard Husky guy, I’ve come to adopt them as my second team. I even have season tickets. Most Ducks would be ashamed, but I’m totally for it. Who says that we can’t mingle?

Anyway! On football game days we start out with tailgating fun and then the game. Knowing this, I decided to do 20 miles last week and do the Labor Day Half on Monday. Good decision.

Here are some pics from the game day fun. Anyone else a Husky or a Duck?

On Sunday, we started the day off with yet another sunny day in Seattle. On the agenda was a delicious breakfast over at one of my favorites, Serious Biscuit. Do you see Joe hearts Sarah? Yep, that’s us.

I designed my own biscuit with just an egg and sausage. Sooo good and a perfect start to Sunday. We took our food over to Lake Union Park to enjoy the scenery and fresh air.

The weekend certainly wasn’t over yet. Next up is the packet pickup for the Labor Day Half, my 5th half marathon of the year, on top of the full I’ve already done. I’ll leave the race recap to the next post.

How was your weekend? Did you have any fun plans or races?
