Ahhh… so many tweets and people talking about the Nike Women’s Marathon in SF which is occurring this Sunday, October 14th. I love it as I ran the half last year.
This weekend is race weekend and so many awesome runner ladies will be there. I just read on the official NWM 26.2 Facebook that:
Nike athletes Joan Benoit Samuelson, Allyson Felix, Kara Goucher and Shalane Flanagan will inspire runners throughout the entire race weekend. Catch them on stage at the Expotique on Friday at 2:00p (Joan) and 3:30p (Joan, Kara and Shalane) and Saturday at 2:00p (Allyson) and 3:30p (Joan, Allyson, Kara and Shalane). This is definitely something you’re not going to want to miss.
Umm… I would be thrilled to see all four of those women speak in person.
In memory of my fantastic weekend and the amazing memories of running the half marathon last year, and the fact that I never did an actual race recap, I will share with you my memories and some fun pictures.
The entire experience was awesome. Spending the weekend in San Francisco with my boy, my besties, and being surrounded by so many amazing women (and some guys!)
The NWM Expotique (expo) was pretty awesome for packet pickup. So many great vendors smack in the middle of Union Square.
I also got exciting news that I got to be one of the lucky ladies to model Nike Sportswear fashion in their Nike Run the Runway fashion show, open to the public with official judges and spectators.
I had never done anything like this before, so it was awesome to go through the whole pre-runway logistics, hair and makeup, etc. Also met the awesome Emily as a fellow runway model!
This link on YouTube is a snippet of my catwalk. I was so nervous!
The race itself was difficult and hilly, which I expected going into SF but they were MONSTER hills! We all made it the finish line where San Francisco firemen in tuxedos with silver platters handed out Tiffany blue boxes with a commemorative necklace. Amazing, right?
So awesome!
They also had every single runner name listed on walls outside Niketown. Very cool.
I wish everyone a fantastic weekend running the NWM full or half marathon! My friend, Rachel, is running the half this weekend (her 2nd!). Go Rachel!
