It’s only two days till the start of Ragnar Relay Northwest Passage!
I am feeling giddy, excited, and nervous as it’s my first relay. What if I’m a total grumpster?! What if my legs crap out?
If you haven’t heard of Ragnar before, they’re a series of races around the country comprising of a 12-person (regular) or 6-person (ultra) relay team running around 200 miles.
The Ragnar NWP goes from Blaine, WA (near the US-Canada border) down to Langley, WA on Whidbey Island.
I’m running this relay with 11 of my Oiselle teammates! From the Oiselle Athletes page:
Check out my teammate Andrea’s blog post with a detailed introduction on each team member. She’s a great blogger!
So excited! I’ll be riding in Van 1 and am runner 5 covering a little over 18 miles across three legs.
Tonight, I trekked over to the grocery store to pick up essentials like bread for PB&Js, salty pretzels, dry shampoo (first time using this but, hey, I’m willing to see how it helps make my hair less dirty feeling), hand sanitizer, and other things like turkey deli meat, chocolate milk, etc. I plan on doing a blog post soon regarding all the items I’m bringing with me in hopes that it’ll help you!
In addition to the grocery shop, I decided to bake my team cookies. Who doesn’t love cookies?! They’re oatmeal chocolate chip raisin cookies. BOOM! Recipe based on this Skinnytaste recipe. They’re a “healthier” version of the traditional cookie with only 2 tablespoons of butter, the addition of applesauce, oatmeal, and raisins. Fuel for the run, I say.
Tomorrow, there’s a big meetup at Oiselle HQ to run Green Lake, decorate vans, and other awesome shenanigans. π
Till next time!! Please be sure to follow along as we race Ragnar on Twitter and Instagram through hashtag #PartyLikeAFlockstar
Ahh! I’m so excited for you (and a little bit jealous I admit), I’m sure you will all have the best time out there! Enjoy! π I’ll be following it all on Twitter, of course π
Thank you, Evelin! Looking forward to having you cheer us on!
Oh, please let me know how the dry shampoo works out. My hair gets so greasy without washing for a day and I have a big trip next year where I’ll have to go without a shower for a few days. I’m dreading it already.
Absolutely, I’ll report back. I’m a daily hair washer so this will truly put my hair through the ultimate test.
You’re going to LOVE the relay! I ran in Ragnar from CT to MA two years ago. It was fantastic! I probably slept about an hour the whole two days, so I was extremely exhausted the following day, but it was definitely worth it. We had two big rest areas and they provided pizza at one, and smores at a campfire at another one! Make sure you guys have/pack reflective vests, headlamps, and lots of food and fluids. One of my favorite races/runs is still to this day my 2am run from one of my legs on the relay! You guys are going to rock it, I’m so excited for you all.
Thanks for the well wishes, Lauren!

I’m really looking forward to running this. We definitely have all bases covered. Probably too much food like most vans. Just one thing…. please no food coma!!
I cannot wait to see your recap from this! I’m hoping to run a relay someday π have fun!!
Thanks, Emily!! π

Oatmeal pumpkin protein bars?! Yes, please! See you at the start. π
And yes to CrossFit muscles, I can do it!
